HOMECOMING
Homecoming is probably my favorite thing about Sparta. We have the best homecoming, in my opinion, in the whole nation. For anyone who doesn't know how this whole homecoming thing works I'll tell you. Pretty much all of the homecoming events are planned and run by student council so a "thank you" should be in order to them. The week starts off the Friday before the day of homecoming, on that day the different grades wear their class colors, this year seniors were black, juniors were green, sophomores were charcoal gray, and the freshman were red. Then throughout the next week there is a dress-up day every day. Going on during the week is also penny-a-point and the food drive. Each item and money goes towards a score for each class. The dress-up days also count towards the score. Then comes the Homecoming Friday! The day starts off with the formal assembly, (which I announce for). The foreign exchange students and the homecoming court freshman through seniors get to walk down the gym in front of the whole school. Then the senior court members give a short speech about themselves and what not. After the formal assembly everyone goes back to their homeroom to vote for king and queen. This year the cheerleaders did our routine after the formal assembly after everyone came back to the gym. That is a good part of the day because I like showing off what we do in front of the school. After the cheer routine there is games against each grade, to name a few, the scooter race, caterpillar, limbo, pie eating, etc. There are points each class receives during those games that goes to the total score. After all the games we break for lunch, down time, and mock rock practice. Then everyone comes back to the gym to watch mock rocks. Mock rocks are a dance routine that each class performs of their theme. The seniors were Rock of Ages; Juniors, Footloose; Sophomores, Grease; and Freshman, High School Musical. After mock rocks there is a school parade to the football field for a pep assembly. After that the school day is over. The football game is the whole point of homecoming so there is usually a big crowd. Before the football game there is a town parade which the court members, band, cheerleaders, class floats, and other people get to walk in through town to the football field. This year before the game the cheerleaders got to do their performance again on the football field which was really cool. That about sums up Friday, now onto Saturday.
Saturday is the dance. Student Council members wake up early (9:00 am) to set up for the dance. Since there is usually many of us there it's pretty easy to do. We make it look cool and fun and we even had cookies this year which we made. After all that is done everyone goes home to get ready for the dance. Then people usually go to a friend's house with a group of friends to take pictures and go out to dinner. Then the dance takes over the rest of the night. I can't even explain the dance, it's just awesome.
And that is Sparta's eventful homecoming weekend!
